First-Time Buyers
If you’re looking to buy your first home in this region, we’ve got all the information you need to help guide you through the process.
The home-buying market in Trowbridge has been stable for a few years now, which makes sense given it’s a town that offers a lot for first-time buyers and those looking for a forever home.
Nestled in the Wiltshire countryside and just 11 miles south of Bath, Trowbridge has a lot of the amenities buyers are looking for – direct transport links to London, Bath and Brighton, a range of shops and a rich architectural history.
If you’re thinking about moving to the area, get in touch so we can support you in the buying process.

There are a few reasons to use Crescent Mortgages if you’re thinking of buying here – including the fact that we’re based just on the outskirts of the town.
That means you’re getting fantastic local knowledge, from brokers that genuinely care about getting you the best deal.
We don’t charge a broker fee – other advisers will charge you twice, as they can charge you to get the mortgage and get a procurement fee from the lender when the deal goes through. We’re happy only getting paid once.
Not only that, but we have access to thousands of great deals – including some that you won’t be able to find on the market – so we can find the rate that’s perfect for you.
Trowbridge – apparently so-called due to its Saxon origins, from the phrase treow-brycg, or ‘tree-bridge’, is a market town steeped in milling history. As such, you can find all types of property to buy, with detached houses among the most popular.
It’s bigger than people think
With a population approaching 40,000 people, Trowbridge is one of the bigger towns in Wiltshire. Indeed, it’s the County Town for the region, with a wide variety of industries and shops to support the growing population.
It has a wider variety of houses too, as people who can’t afford to live in Bath often move to nearby towns, where there’s more space and therefore a greater prevalence of detached and semi-detached properties.
“You can get more for your money in Trowbridge than somewhere like Bath, so more people can afford a detached house. They’re often newer properties too, so there’s more building of that type,” says Daniel Pitman, director of Crescent Mortgages.
“That’s true – there are bigger houses in Trowbridge in general,” says Kye Collier, the other director of Crescent Mortgages.
“In Trowbridge, unlike Bath, you don’t get as many flats, it’s not somewhere with lots of converted houses.
“Flats are the least common, then terraced houses, though even those get rarer outside the centre, since you don’t need to squash houses together anymore, so they become semi-detached or detached.
“You’ll also get a lot more first-time buyers in Trowbridge than Bath, because of lower house prices. There are more one-earner or one-part-time-working households too – plus you’ll get more families buying.”
“My understanding of Trowbridge is, if you want somewhere with lots to do, you’ve got loads of places to eat, cinema, bowling, fun days out and it’s also about a ten-minute drive from some really beautiful villages,” says Daniel.
“I’m there playing football these days,” says Kye.”On the new 3G pitch they’ve just put in.”

We’re Kye and Daniel, and between us have over 28 years’ experience of helping people find the right mortgage for them.
We’re based in the Glove Factory in Holt – which shares its roots with the milling industry of Trowbridge, just on the northern outskirts of the town – and you can easily pop by to drop off documents or have a quick chat if you’d rather ask something face-to-face.
Daniel says: “We wanted to give mortgage advice the right way, and give people the time and input they need, rather than rushing as many clients through as possible.
“We wanted that rather than having some manager or director breathing down your neck that you don’t particularly like or trust. Now, we come in and do it our own way.”
